Clare Wright
Clare Wright was born in Michigan, USA and migrated to Australia with her mother at age five. She received a Bachelor of Arts (History Honours) from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Arts in Public History from Monash University. She has worked as an adviser to the former Federal member Phil Cleary, as a researcher for ABC-TV and as a freelance historian.
In February 2002, she was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy by the University of Melbourne for her thesis Beyond the Ladies Lounge: A History of Female Publicans, Victoria 1875-1945. In July 2002, this thesis was awarded the inaugural Serle History Award, for the most original history research for an Australian thesis in 2001. Clare’s first book Beyond the Ladies Lounge is based on this research.
She lives in Melbourne.
